Desmond Elliot Kneels, Apologises to Gbajabiamila After APC Primary Rift
Surulere lawmaker seeks reconciliation, reaffirms loyalty to Lagos APC leadership
A fresh attempt at reconciliation has emerged within the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as Surulere Constituency I lawmaker, Desmond Elliot, publicly apologised to Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, following a disagreement over the party’s primary process.
A video circulating online showed Elliot kneeling before Gbajabiamila while appealing for forgiveness and reconciliation after the political disagreement.
In the footage, the lawmaker acknowledged his position during the dispute and expressed regret over his actions.
“I’m sorry, I have no excuse,” Elliot said. “I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry and I am hoping to be cultured in the future.”
The disagreement reportedly followed the APC primary process in Surulere, during which Elliot withdrew from the contest and expressed dissatisfaction with the treatment of his team.
His stance had generated tension within the local APC structure, particularly given Gbajabiamila’s longstanding influence in Surulere politics.
However, the latest meeting appeared to signal a move towards reconciliation, with Gbajabiamila embracing Elliot after his apology.
The development is being seen as an effort to restore political cohesion within the Surulere APC structure ahead of future political engagements.
Elliot, who represents Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has remained a prominent figure in Lagos politics since transitioning from the entertainment industry into public service.
