The Former Member, House of Representatives representing Oshodi-Isolo Federal Constituency II, Hon. Jaiyeola Ajatta has suggested that the fear of contacting the Delta variant of the Covid-19 virus was responsible for the low voter turnout at the July 24 local government polls.

Insisting that it has nothing to do with the party’s acceptability, he stressed that the party is formidable and remains the people’s choice.

He said the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has not done enough to challenge APC, urging the party members to join the winning team ahead of the 2023 general elections or continue to miss the chance.

“For the 2023 election, APC is strong in Isolo, the constituency up to the federal level and we will win. With us here, I do not see most of the work that our opponents did to earn themselves a comeback. As the ruling party, it is now for their members to sit back and have a rethink and see whether to stay there or come to APC because the door is open to everybody but whoever misses it now will have himself to blame.”

Rep Ajatta urged the newly elected political office holders in Isolo LCDA to justify people’s mandate and trust in them to merit their return tickets after their first tenure in office.

Ajatta, a two-term house of reps member, advised in an exclusive interview with ECHONEWS.

He said just as the electorate who voted them in, he also has the highest level of belief in the newly elected politicians.

He stressed that the burden is on the council chairman, Hon. Adebayo Olasoju and the seven councillors especially the first-timers among them to carry out their duties diligently to deserve return tickets.

Ajatta urged the politicians to emulate him, noting that his performance earned him a second term as a member of the Federal House of Representatives in 2007.

He recalled how he gathered 28,000 votes in 2007 compared to the 18,000 he had in his first term, noting that he facilitated and organised almost 100 developmental projects.
