The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ejigbo LCDA, has commended the government for the prompt payment of the council workers’ salaries even as some of them were not allowed to work during the lockdown.

Appreciating the gesture by the government, the NULGE chairman, Mr. Sodiq Lawal said the prompt payment of salary has really helped the workers who were instructed to stay at home during the period of the Covid-19 lockdown.

Workers from level 1 to 14 in the workforce of Ejigbo LCDA have been ordered to stay at home as a measure to curtail community spread of the deadly virus but they still enjoy their full salaries paid as and when due.

Lawal also commended the government for paying the level 1 to 8 officers their leave allowances which, he said, have served as palliatives to them during the emergency period.

He said the workers are optimistic as they look forward to resuming their duties in June as many are tired of staying at home.

He therefore urged the workers to remain calm, safe, practice all the safety measures and be hygienic by washing their hands, using sanitisers and face mask to prevent contracting the coronavirus.

“We thank God for helping us through the period, and we appreciate the government for the prompt payment of salaries. We hope to get more because they have promised us some things which we are optimistic would be fulfilled,” he said.
