The Lagos Special Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja has convicted one Ramoni Amore for raping a 15-year-old girl.

Amore, an officer of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, LNSC, was sentenced to life imprisonment by Justice Rahman Oshodi during a proceeding at the court on Thursday.

47-year-old Amore, was on trial on two-count charge bordering on defilement and attempt to procure abortion, which are contrary to the Lagos State Criminal Laws, 2015, as mentioned by the prosecution counsel, Olufunmilayo Aluko.

Aluko called four witnesses, including the victim, victim’s mother, an Investigative Police Officer, IPO and a social worker.

The defense counsel, Abel Iwoara, presented only one witness, the defendant, who testified for himself.

Justice Oshodi, before sentencing the offender held that the prosecution had proved the case of defilement against Amore. However, the judge noted that the charge of procuring an abortion for the survivor didn’t hold waters.

He said: “No medical expert was presented to establish that the substance given to the victim was poisonous or noxious or capable of procuring an abortion.

“Ramoni Amore, your conduct was grievous given your position as a law enforcement officer with the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corp. You abused the trust and intimidated the victim

“I hereby sentence you to life imprisonment and also your name should be registered as a sex offender in the Lagos State register book.”
