The Commonwealth Foundation has opened applications for its 2026 Grants Programme.
This provides funding opportunities for eligible civil society organisations, networks, coalitions, alliances and creative collectives working to address pressing social, economic and environmental challenges across Commonwealth countries.

Funding Opportunities and Grant Amounts
The 2026 Grants Programme offers two funding streams tailored to the needs of individual organisations and collaborative initiatives.
Under the Individual Organisation Grants, eligible civil society organisations can receive between £15,000 and £30,000 per year to implement projects addressing the programme’s priority areas.
The Collective Action Grants provide between £15,000 and £20,000 per year for collaborative projects involving networks, coalitions, alliances and other eligible groups working together to achieve shared objectives.
Both funding streams support projects lasting up to two years, enabling successful applicants to develop and implement initiatives with sustained community impact.
Projects selected under the programme are expected to commence between August 1 and September 30, 2027.
Priority Areas for Funding
The Commonwealth Foundation’s 2026 Grants Programme focuses on three thematic areas, with applicants required to demonstrate how their proposed projects align with at least one of the priority pillars.
Climate and Environmental Justice
The programme supports initiatives that promote environmental protection, climate justice and accountability in environmental governance.

Economic Inclusion

Priority initiatives include programmes that promote sustainable livelihoods, encourage entrepreneurship, support decent job creation, protect labour rights and improve access to economic opportunities.
The objective is to strengthen inclusive economic participation and help address the structural barriers that prevent disadvantaged communities from achieving sustainable livelihoods.
Freedom of Expression
The freedom of expression pillar focuses on initiatives that protect open expression, strengthen civic space and encourage democratic dialogue across Commonwealth countries.
Projects that promote inclusive public discourse, support civil society participation and create opportunities for citizens to engage in discussions on issues affecting their communities fall within this priority area.
