Tragedy in Kogi: Catholic Priest Stabbed to Death Along Ajaokuta Road

The Catholic Diocese of Lokoja is mourning the tragic death of Rev. Fr. Samuel Opeyemi Oyetoro, who was allegedly stabbed to death by unknown assailants along the Ajaokuta Road in Kogi State.

According to reports, the priest was attacked on Wednesday, July 29, and sustained multiple stab wounds before his body was abandoned by the roadside.
Rev. Fr. Oyetoro, a native of Ayetoro in Ijumu Local Government Area and born in Egbe, previously served as the parish priest of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Egbe. His death has sent shockwaves through the Catholic community and beyond.

The Catholic Diocese of Lokoja confirmed the incident in an official statement, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the priest and calling on the faithful to pray for the peaceful repose of his soul.

The diocese also urged priests, religious, and lay faithful to remember the late cleric’s family and parishioners in their prayers during this difficult period.

The motive behind the killing remains unknown, and security agencies have yet to issue an official statement or announce any arrests. An investigation into the incident is expected.
