In celebration of the golden jubilee of Lagos State and the second year anniversary of the administration, Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has commissioned Shonibare Road, Isolo.
Speaking at the commissioning, Honourable Commissioner for information & Strategy, Hon. Steve Ayorinde who represented the state governor emphasized that the project is to alleviate the plight of the citizenry, provide alternative roads that will improve road connectivity, reduce traffic gridlock at the Oke-Afa Junction and improve socio-economic activities in the area.
He implored the residents to take ownership of the project and take care of it tenderly.
Present at the event was the director of project planning, Engineer Rotimi Thomas who represented the permanent secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure,.
In his speech, he recalled the deplorable condition of the road prior to the intervention of the present administration owing to several years of negligence by previous administration.
He enjoined the benefiting residents to be responsible for the maintenance of the road and other facilities in the community.
The chairman, Community Development Association Alhaja Fatai Abisiga attested to the devastating condition of the road before the soothing intervention of the state governor . He showered appreciation on the governor who he said has been a man of integrity as he is living up to his campaign promises..
Shonibare road is one of the 181 proposed roads for the year by the state government after the completion of 114 roads across the state last year. The parameter of the project which is 600 meter with the average width of 13 meter and the scope of work which include construction of drainage and culverts at both sides, provision of crushed stone base course, construction of asphaltic surfacing and provision and installation of street lights and servicing ducts to lightiup the pathways at night.
In his remarks, the sole administrator Ejigbo LCDA Hon. Ibrahim Adigun admonished residents for the continuous support of the present administration as it is perceived that stunning development is in its trait.
He also implored the residents to take absolute ownership of the road and maintain it properly. Baale Mafoluku Ajao Estate, Shekoni Elemo thanked the government for the project and assured the continuous support of the people to the present administration.
Lastly, before the unveiling of the plaque and official cutting of ribbons, the sole administrator Isolo LCDA, Hon. Abimbola Oshikoya appreciated the “action governor” for deeming it fit to revive infrastructural facilities in the LCDA and implored the residents to maintain the road as it is one of the dividends of democracy.
