Akpororo Fires Hat-Trick as Media Team Defeats AGN in Dramatic Shootout
Ace comedian Akpororo delivered a stunning hat-trick, but it was not enough to stop the media team from lifting the Ambassador Segun Olusola Legacy Cup after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) in the annual celebrity football match held at the Main Bowl of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
The entertaining encounter, organised by the Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards (NBMA) in conjunction with the Actors Guild of Nigeria and supported by IBD IMPEX Limited and Rite Foods Limited, ended 3-3 after regulation time before the media team held their nerves to win 4-3 on penalties.

Akpororo was the standout performer for the entertainers, scoring all three goals for the AGN side with an impressive display that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. However, the media team responded through Akinwale Kasali, Taiwo Odedeyi and Joshua Ikogor, who each found the back of the net to force the match into penalties.
In the shootout, the media professionals converted their kicks with composure to secure the trophy and emerge champions of the Ambassador Segun Olusola Legacy Cup.
The celebrity match also featured veteran comedian Ali Baba and several entertainment personalities, who exchanged stage performances for football action in a contest that blended sports, entertainment and camaraderie.

Following the match, the trophy and prizes, donated by the Family of Ambassador Segun Olusola, were presented by the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria alongside the Chairman of the AGN Lagos State Chapter in honour of the late broadcasting icon’s enduring contributions to broadcasting, culture, sports and national development.
The football fiesta continued with another exciting fixture between the Department of Mass Communication and Media Studies of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) and Emiloju FC.
Emiloju FC produced a dominant display, cruising to a 5-0 victory over the students. Adetunji Waris Ayomide scored, while Faruk Abubakar and Rofeek Safiu both registered braces to complete the emphatic win.
Organisers said the annual celebrity football event was designed to promote friendship, healthy competition, networking and stronger collaboration between Nigeria’s broadcasting and entertainment industries while preserving the legacy of Ambassador Segun Olusola.

The event received support from IBD IMPEX Limited and Rite Foods Limited, whose partnership contributed to the successful staging of the football celebration.
