Agege Assembly Race: APC’s Abiola Holds Prayer Session

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Agege Constituency I, Gbenga Abiola, has organised an interfaith prayer session for the party’s candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, as former APC aspirants Kola Egunjobi and Azeez Yusuf, popularly known as Ninolowo, have moved to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to pursue their Assembly bids.
Egunjobi, a former chairman of Agege Local Government, is now contesting for Agege Constituency I under the APM, while Ninolowo is seeking the Agege Constituency II seat on the party’s platform. Both secured APM tickets after changes to the APC candidate list for the two constituencies.
The development followed an earlier dispute over the APC Assembly primaries. Egunjobi and Ninolowo had been reported as winners of the party’s May primaries, but subsequent changes to the APC candidate list saw Abiola emerge as the candidate for Constituency I, while Enimakure Akindele Sakiru was listed for Constituency II.
Against this backdrop, Abiola’s interfaith prayer session brought together traditional rulers, chiefs, APC leaders, religious leaders, stakeholders and party members.
Abiola said the session was organised to seek peace, divine guidance, protection and victory for APC candidates at various levels ahead of the elections.
The Chief Imam of Ajakaiye, Isiak Adam, prayed for divine guidance, victory and the peaceful conduct of the 2027 general elections.
Kayode Opeifa, managing director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), urged APC members to maintain peaceful coexistence before, during and after the elections.
Opeifa also called on party members to remain united and committed to the party’s ideals while mobilising support for APC candidates.
“We urge you all to mobilise support for all our party candidates as we appreciate President Bola Tinubu, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Gov. Obafemi Hamzat and other Lagos APC leaders for their continued commitment to progressive governance,” he said.
The APC chieftain in Agege Constituency also urged members to prepare for Nigeria’s forthcoming Independence Day anniversary.
Oluyinka Ogundimu, a former lawmaker who represented Agege Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, urged members to remain loyal, dedicated and steadfast in their support for the party.
Abiola called on members to remain united, work tirelessly and continue to pray for APC candidates from the presidency to the Lagos State House of Assembly.
“I am confident that the APC will emerge victorious in spite of opposition from rival parties,” he said.
Moruf Olohunwa, chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC), Agege Local Government, called on residents to support APC candidates.
Sola Osolana, an APC chieftain and director general of the campaign organisation for Lagos State House of Assembly candidates in Agege, reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots mobilisation for the party.
Saadu Usman, leader of the Arewa community in Agege, also urged members to sustain unity, intensify grassroots mobilisation and work collectively ahead of the 2027 elections.
The movement of Egunjobi and Ninolowo to the APM has added another dimension to the contest for the two Agege Assembly seats, with both now set to pursue their respective bids under the new platform.
