A dispatch rider has died following a collision involving a trailer opposite Christ Livingspring Apostolic Ministry (CLAM) Church along Ogunnusi Road, Ojodu, Lagos State.

The accident occurred late Wednesday, leaving the rider with severe head injuries.

A reporter who visited the scene observed the victim’s lifeless body lying on the road, with visible injuries and blood around his head, as sympathisers and other road users gathered at the scene.

The deceased was subsequently evacuated, with a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) official reportedly assisting in the process and conveying the body to a police station around Grammar School.

An eyewitness alleged that the dispatch rider was responsible for the crash. However, the circumstances surrounding the accident could not be independently established as of the time of filing this report.

The trailer driver was also reportedly nowhere to be found after the incident, with witnesses alleging that he fled the scene.

A towing van later arrived to remove the truck involved in the accident and clear the road for other motorists.

The incident sparked concern among residents and passers-by, while the circumstances surrounding the rider’s death remained unclear.

The police are expected to investigate the crash and establish how it occurred.

The latest incident has renewed concerns over the safety of dispatch riders and other vulnerable road users in Lagos, particularly their exposure to accidents involving heavy-duty vehicles.

The identity of the deceased and an official account of the incident were yet to be made public as of the time of filing this report.
