Four people have died and seven others sustained injuries in three separate road accidents across Lagos State, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

The deadliest crash occurred at Berger Bridge, inward Eleko, along the Ibeju-Lekki Expressway, where a truck carrying a 20-foot container overturned onto a Toyota Hiace bus.

LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the agency received a distress call and immediately dispatched a response team from its Epe base.

Preliminary findings indicated that the truck was travelling at excessive speed while climbing the bridge. The driver reportedly lost control while attempting to avoid a collision, causing the truck and container to fall onto the bus.

Four adult men died at the scene, while six other occupants sustained injuries. The injured victims received first aid before being taken to Epe General Hospital for treatment.

Emergency responders, including LASEMA, the Federal Road Safety Corps and the police, secured the scene. A private crane was used to lift the truck and container and recover the bodies, while traffic management measures were introduced.

In another incident, a truck crashed into a solar-powered streetlight pole near Vetland School, inward Agege Pen Cinema, along Old Abeokuta Road, at about 4:09 a.m. on Wednesday.

The truck, with registration number KTU-940XT, reportedly struck the pole, mounted the road median and obstructed traffic. LASEMA said preliminary findings pointed to reckless driving. No injuries were reported in that incident.

The agency deployed its recovery vehicle to remove the truck, which was subsequently taken to Abattoir Police Station for investigation and safekeeping.

The third accident occurred at Lanre Bus Stop, inward Igando, along LASU-Igando Road, when a DAF truck collided with a Toyota Corolla.

According to Oke-Osanyintolu, traffic congestion had developed because a truck had broken down on the opposite side of the road. The DAF truck allegedly drove against traffic before hitting the car.

The Corolla driver sustained a minor head injury and was taken to Igando General Hospital by an associate. Both vehicles were removed from the road to restore traffic flow.

The accidents come days after a mother and her child died when two container trucks overturned near Freeman Market at Mile 2, inward Apapa, trapping the victims beneath the trucks and containers.

Following the latest incidents, LASEMA urged motorists to obey speed limits, avoid driving against traffic and reckless manoeuvres, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before setting out.

Residents were also advised to report emergencies through the state’s toll-free numbers, 767 and 112.

The agency expressed condolences to the families of those who died and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
