The National Universities Commission (NUC) has carried out a resource assessment of two newly proposed degree programmes at Lagos State University (LASU), placing them under formal review for compliance with national quality standards.

The exercise, conducted on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, covered the B.Sc. Statistics programme in the Faculty of Science and the B.Sc. Ed. Human Kinetics (Sports Management) programme in the Faculty of Education.

According to a statement from the university, the assessment is a critical step in the process of securing NUC approval to ensure the programmes meet the prescribed requirements for quality university education in Nigeria.

The evaluation began with an entry meeting at the Senate Chamber of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building on the main campus in Ojo. LASU’s delegation was led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Oseni Taiwo Afisi, and included other principal officers.

At the exit meeting, the assessment team leaders, Professor Pauline Ekuri and Professor Mohammed Bello, presented their findings and observations on the two programmes. They highlighted areas requiring attention where necessary and expressed appreciation for the university’s cooperation, reaffirming their commitment to a professional evaluation.

University officials described the feedback as a basis for further improvements and a reinforcement of LASU’s commitment to maintaining high academic standards.

The resource assessment forms part of the standard regulatory process that new programmes must undergo before they can be fully approved and commence. Successful completion of the review would pave the way for the eventual launch of the Statistics and Sports Management degrees, expanding LASU’s academic offerings in science and education.
