Nigerian singer Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun, has shared the advice his elder brother gave him after he opened up about his struggle to find the right woman to marry.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Uncut podcast, the singer said his brother questioned when he last approached a woman in broad daylight, suggesting that his social habits could be affecting his chances of finding a suitable partner.

Mayorkun said he agreed with the advice, explaining that he associated responsibility with a lifestyle that did not involve staying out late into the night.

“I told my big bro I have been struggling to find the right woman to marry, and he asked me a simple question: ‘When was the last time you spoke to a girl in broad daylight?’” the singer said.

He added that his brother questioned whether a woman who stayed out until the early hours of the morning could be considered responsible.

“You can’t be a responsible girl and still be outside by 1 a.m.,” Mayorkun said.

The Mayor of Lagos crooner also recounted an experience with a woman he once invited on a date, saying she claimed not to know him or his music.

According to the singer, the woman later sang one of his older songs word for word when it played on the radio during their second date, despite her earlier claim.

Mayorkun suggested that pretence and the pressure to maintain certain lifestyles had made it more difficult to identify a compatible life partner.

His comments have sparked conversation about dating, relationship expectations and the challenges some people face when searching for a spouse.
