LA Olympics Qualifier: Comoros Coach Target Upset Against Super Falcons
By Saheed Afolabi
Comoros women’s national team head coach, Yusuf Abdallah, has vowed that his side will give their best when they face Nigeria’s Super Falcons, insisting that his players are determined to make the most of their chances despite the quality and experience of their opponents, ECHONEWS reports.
The first leg of the tie will be held at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne on Friday, October 9 and the match is scheduled to kickoff by 6pm Nigeria time.
Abdallah acknowledged the strength of the Nigerian team but maintained that the Comoros would approach the encounter with the seriousness it deserves, expressing confidence in his players’ ability to compete.
“It is already an honour to face a team with so much experience and such a high level of quality. We are aware of the challenge that lies ahead and how difficult it will be to overcome it,” Abdallah said.
The Comoros coach, however said his team would not be intimidated by the reputation of the Super Falcons, adding that they were prepared to fight for a favourable result.
“However, we are here to play a serious match and give ourselves the best possible chance by making the most of our opportunities. As you know, in football, a match is never won until it has been played.”
Abdallah described the encounter as significant for both countries, noting that his players would be disappointed if they lost but were focused on competing rather than dwelling on the possibility of defeat.
“It is an important match for everyone, both Nigeria and the Comoros. Of course, if we lose, we will be disappointed, but we are not thinking about defeat.
“We have come here to play a serious match, and we will do everything possible to ensure that the result goes in our favour.”
The Comoros will be looking to test themselves against Africa’s most successful national team
