Nigeria winger, Moses Simon has declared that Nigeria are determined to secure victory against Russia insisting that the team did not endure a long journey simply to return home empty handed.

The Super Eagles will engage Russia in an international friendly encounter at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium on Tuesday, October 6.

Simon said the Super Eagles remain focused on getting a positive result and every player in the squad understands the responsibility that comes with representing Nigeria.

“We didn’t come here to lose, we can’t fly for long hours to come here to lose, we came to win also,” Simon said.

The experienced winger also played down the perception that the team’s success depends on a few established stars, insisting that the younger players in the squad have the quality and responsibility to make an impact.

“I’m not the only star, every young player in the team is also a star. This is our job, we go everywhere to play, we signed for it so we will go and give everything.”

Nigeria head coach, Eric Chelle was forced to introduce new players to the squad following the withdrawal of huge chunk of players due to injury and club’s refusal.

In absence of Wilfred Ndidi, Simon will captain the Eagles in what’s expected to be his 102nd cap for the national team.

The last meeting between Russia and Nigeria ended in a 1-1 stalemate in June 2015.
