Teacher Sentenced To Life Imprisonment Over Defilement Of Pupil in Epe

A school teacher has been sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling an eight-year-old pupil at El-Bossaa Nursery and Primary School in Epe, Lagos State.
The Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, sitting in Ikeja, convicted the teacher, Nwatu Isaac, after finding him guilty of unlawfully having sexual intercourse with the child.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency disclosed this in a statement on Friday, following the judgment delivered by Justice Rahman Oshodi on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
The agency said Isaac was found guilty of defiling the pupil on March 10, 2022, with the court holding that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
According to the agency, the survivor, who was nine years old when she testified, gave consistent evidence and identified Isaac in court.
She told the court that Isaac, whom she knew as “Master Isaac”, took her into the school toilet where he sexually assaulted her.
The court also considered evidence from the survivor’s mother, who noticed blood on her daughter’s underwear and vagina after she returned home from school.
Medical evidence from the Mirabel Centre was also presented and was said to have corroborated the evidence of penetration.
The court rejected Isaac’s denial that he had left the school premises on the day of the incident, noting that his own testimony placed him at the school at the relevant time while the survivor identified him as the person who took her into the toilet.
Justice Oshodi also rejected his defence of alibi and suggestions that the child could have been sexually abused by her stepsister or that the school toilet was too small for the offence to have occurred.
During sentencing, the judge said Isaac had abused the trust placed in him by the survivor and her family.
The court also noted that he was previously the child’s teacher and had been entrusted by parents in the community to transport their children.
The agency said Isaac’s conviction was based on Section 137 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015, which prescribes life imprisonment for anyone found guilty of unlawfully having sexual intercourse with a child.
It added that the convict’s name would be entered in the Sexual Offenders Register in line with Sections 33 and 38 of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law, 2021.
