Applications are now open for the 2026/2027 Africa Organisation for Standardisation (ARSO) 14th Continental Essay Competition.

This opportunity offers tertiary students across African Union member states an opportunity to showcase their ideas on standardisation, quality infrastructure and Africa’s economic development.

The annual competition is designed to engage young Africans in discussions on how effective standards and quality systems can support intra-African trade, economic integration and sustainable development.

This year’s competition invites students to examine the role of standardisation in strengthening trade across African countries and developing a more competitive continental economy.

The initiative also seeks to promote a culture of quality and standardisation among African youth while giving students a platform to contribute innovative perspectives to some of the challenges affecting trade and economic growth on the continent.

Eligible participants are tertiary-level students from African Union member states who can develop well-researched and original essays addressing the competition’s theme.

The competition provides participants with an opportunity to gain continental recognition for their ideas, while the top entries stand a chance to receive cash prizes of up to $1,000.

Interested students are encouraged to review the official competition guidelines, confirm their eligibility and prepare their submissions according to the prescribed requirements.
