Ojuelegba Crash Claims Passenger’s Life As Bus Rams Into Median Pole
LAGOS — A passenger has lost his life in a lone road crash involving a commercial Volkswagen bus at Ogunlana Junction, inward Ojuelegba, in the Fallout area of Surulere, Lagos.
The fatal accident, involving a commercial bus with registration number LND 130 XR, occurred after the vehicle reportedly careered violently into a median pole.
According to preliminary security reports, the driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and had been driving recklessly shortly before the crash.
The chaotic movement of the bus reportedly forced motorists approaching from behind to exercise caution to avoid being caught up in the incident.
Tragedy struck when a male passenger, apparently attempting to escape from the uncontrolled vehicle, jumped out of the moving bus and sustained severe injuries after hitting the ground.
He later succumbed to his injuries.
The crash could have resulted in further casualties as the damaged vehicle and accident scene posed a serious danger to other motorists.
However, operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), who were conducting traffic surveillance in the area, quickly moved in after sighting the crash.
The officials secured the scene, managed traffic and removed the deceased passenger and damaged vehicle from the carriageway, preventing the possibility of a secondary collision.
Security personnel from Area C Police Division, Ojuelegba, provided security cover at the scene, while officials of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEHMU) also responded to the incident.
The incident has once again raised concerns about the dangers posed by reckless driving and suspected drunk driving on busy Lagos roads.
