Young Nigerians, students, artisans and entrepreneurs could gain access to digital devices under a new Federal Government empowerment programme targeting 400,000 beneficiaries across the country.
The Federal Government has announced plans to distribute 400,000 digital devices to young Nigerians, students, artisans, entrepreneurs and other vulnerable groups as part of efforts to expand access to digital skills, vocational training and entrepreneurship opportunities.
The initiative is being implemented under the National Digital Skills and Technical Empowerment Programme (NDSTEP) and is aimed at addressing one of the major barriers faced by Nigerians seeking to participate in the digital economy — inadequate access to smartphones, tablets, laptops and other essential digital tools.
Dr Abiola Arogundade, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education, disclosed the planned distribution in Abuja on Thursday.
According to Arogundade, many Nigerians already have useful technical, vocational and entrepreneurial skills but lack the devices needed to turn those skills into employment, business and income opportunities.
The government says the devices are intended to help beneficiaries access jobs, find customers, pursue digital learning, market their businesses and turn acquired skills into sustainable livelihoods.

For example, the Federal Government recently announced a vocational empowerment programme in Oyo State, where 200 young people are scheduled to receive training in graphics/AI, makeup and fashion designing between September 28 and October 9, 2026. Participants will also receive training or start-up tools, including laptops for graphics/AI trainees, makeup kits and sewing machines for eligible participants. The programme is expected to be replicated across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
The government has also said that 500 tablets will be distributed to young Nigerians during the Oyo programme’s October 9 grand finale.
