2027: COWLSO Mobilises Lagos Women as Hamzat Seeks Wider Voter Turnout

The Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) has pledged to intensify voter mobilisation and grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections following an interaction with the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Lagos State, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat.

The delegation, led by Lagos State First Lady, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, visited the PBAT-KOH 2027 Campaign Secretariat in GRA, Ikeja, where Hamzat and his running mate, Princess Damilola Sonayon-James, met with the women.

The meeting focused on voter participation, grassroots mobilisation and communicating the programmes and achievements of the APC-led administrations to residents.

Sanwo-Olu said COWLSO was prepared to participate actively in the electoral process and mobilise voters across polling units.

She said the women would work to increase support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC governorship ticket in Lagos.

“The committee is ready and committed to delivering the party’s mandate by actively participating in the electoral process and mobilising voters to their respective polling units.”

She further urged women to increase their participation in the electoral process, linking voter turnout to the party’s objective of securing more political representation.

Hamzat Targets Increased Voter Participation

Addressing the gathering, Hamzat called on APC supporters to move beyond expressing support for the party and ensure that they actually participate in the voting process.

He urged members to involve their families, neighbours, associates and younger members of their communities in voter mobilisation.

“We should go out to get people to vote because if we say we are standing on a mandate, we must be able to come out to vote and show that we are really standing on that mandate.”

Hamzat also urged COWLSO members to communicate the policies and programmes of the federal and Lagos State governments to residents in their families, communities and workplaces.

According to him, the Lagos APC has set a target of securing the support of 50 per cent of registered voters, with greater emphasis on grassroots participation.

The Deputy Governor also stressed the importance of political participation, saying the campaign would focus on grassroots mobilisation and increased voter turnout.

Women, Youths and Grassroots Mobilisation

Sonayon-James appealed to women to support and guide the governorship candidate as the 2027 campaign gathers momentum.

She described the APC ticket as a combination of Hamzat’s experience in public service and what she described as the energy and aspirations of younger Nigerians.

The campaign’s Director-General, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, also urged the women to use their influence within families and communities to engage younger voters.

He identified voters between the ages of 18 and 35 as an important demographic for the campaign’s grassroots mobilisation efforts.

Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, described voter mobilisation as a collective responsibility and urged the women to communicate the achievements of the Tinubu administration, Lagos State Government and local councils to the electorate.

He said:

“Let us go out to propagate the achievements of this particular administration, what the Governor of Lagos State has done in Lagos State, what our council chairman has done.”

COWLSO Pledges Grassroots Campaign

Former Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University and COWLSO member, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, also pledged the support of Lagos women for APC candidates and called for intensified grassroots and house-to-house mobilisation.

The meeting forms part of the APC’s ongoing engagements with different groups and communities ahead of the 2027 elections, with the party placing emphasis on voter mobilisation and increased participation.

COWLSO members displayed solidarity with the APC during the visit, while campaign officials urged them to take the party’s message to families, neighbourhoods, markets and workplaces.
