LASEPA Educates Technical Students About Sustainable Cooling On World Ozone Day

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) educated technical students about ozone layer protection, sustainable cooling and safe HVAC/R practices.
The outreach which was held at the Lagos State Technical College, Obafemi Awolowo, Ikorodu and was attended by scores of students.
Speaking on the outreach, the General Manager of LASEPA said the agency is deliberate about reaching the next generation of technicians who will work with cooling technologies.
“At LASEPA, we believe conversations about ozone protection should reach the people who will work with cooling technologies tomorrow,” he said.
As part of the agency’s 2026 World Ozone Day activities, students were introduced to practical examples of sustainable cooling, including a solar-powered freezer and battery storage system.
They also took part in a hands-on battery assembly exercise that gave them direct exposure to the technology behind energy-efficient cooling solutions.
The session featured a competition among the students. The winning team received a one-month internship and ₦20,000, while the second and third teams were awarded ₦10,000 and ₦5,000 respectively.
“By bringing these lessons into the technical classroom, LASEPA is helping students connect what they learn with the kind of cooling practices that can protect our environment.”
The initiative shows LASEPA’s commitment to linking environmental education with practical skills training for young people preparing to enter the cooling and refrigeration sector.
