Nigerians interested in building careers, developing businesses or gaining practical skills in the agriculture and agribusiness sector can apply for the SUSTAIN Developing Agribusiness Talent Training Programme 2026.

The programme is part of the Strengthening Underlying Systems and TVETs for Agribusiness Innovation in Nigeria (SUSTAIN) project, an Agricultural Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ATVET) initiative led by Sydani under the Team Europe Initiative Opportunity-driven Skills and Vocational Education and Training in Africa (TEI OP-VET).

The SUSTAIN project is designed to address skills gaps and employment challenges in Nigeria’s agribusiness sector by providing industry-relevant training and connecting participants with employment and entrepreneurship opportunities. The project runs from January 2026 to December 2027.

What the SUSTAIN Programme Offers

The programme provides a structured three-level learning pathway, allowing participants to progress from basic agribusiness knowledge to specialised career skills and eventually entrepreneurship.

Participants can access free training, certificates upon completion and job-placement support, depending on the level completed.

Level 1: Become an Agribusiness Generalist

The first level is designed for people who want to build a strong foundation in agribusiness.

Participants will learn about:

  • Agribusiness Management Principles
  • Value Chain Analysis and Development
  • Gender and Social Inclusion
  • Digital Agribusiness Tools and E-Commerce

Level 1 runs for three months and is delivered through a self-paced learning format.

Participants who complete the training receive a certificate and can access job-placement support.

The official programme information states that Level 1 is open to all interested participants, making it the entry point for Nigerians looking to begin or strengthen their agribusiness journey.

Level 2: Develop Specialised Agribusiness Skills

Participants who complete Level 1, or have equivalent knowledge, can progress to Level 2.

This stage focuses on developing specialised skills linked to specific occupations and employment opportunities in the agribusiness sector.

The three-month programme uses a hybrid learning format, with Agribusiness Digital Systems and Data Analytics among the areas being introduced.

Other specialised courses will be developed based on identified skills gaps within the industry.

Successful participants receive a certificate and access to job-placement support.

Level 3: Build Your Agribusiness

Level 3 is targeted at participants who want to turn their agribusiness knowledge into a viable business.

The three-month, fully in-person programme focuses on Agribusiness Innovation and Investment Pitching and Practice of Entrepreneurship.

Participants will receive practical support covering areas such as:

  • Business-plan development
  • Costing and pricing
  • Investment pitching
  • Negotiating with suppliers and buyers
  • Developing and strengthening micro-enterprises
  • Agribusiness innovation and entrepreneurship

Participants who complete Level 3 receive a certificate and can access a soft-grant pathway, subject to the programme’s requirements. Spaces at this level are limited.
