Man beats pregnant woman, causes miscarriage

The police at Ejigbo Division made have arrested one James Aigbolba, who was alledged to have severely assaulted a pregnant woman leading to the victim’s loss of pregnancy.
The victim, Rita Wabara and her husband were said to have lost the fruit of the womb after several years of marriage, hoping that the lost pregnancy would finally provide their first child, an expectation which was thwarted by Aigbolba.
Echonews gathered that Wabara and her hubby had a heated disagreement over waste PSP bill at Toyin Daniel Street, Ejigbo where they both resided with the defendant.
During the argument between the couple, reports have it that Wabara uttered insults on the suspect who came in to the scene to settle the dispute. In reaction, Aigbolba descended on her using his fist on her stomach.
The incident led to bleeding by the victim. She was however rushed to the hospital where the doctors confirmed the loss of the pregnancy.
The matter was reported to the police at Ejigbo Division and Aigbolba was arrested and charged before Ejigbo Magistrates court.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Kenneth Asibor, informed the court that the victim was still laying critically at the hospital and it was not certain what will happen to her. He asked the court to use its discretion on the issue of bail on the defendant.
The Presiding Magistrate, Teslimi Shomade, did not grant Aigbolba bail but ordered him to be remanded in prison custody.
The court then directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to DPP for advice. The matter was adjourned to 11th July, 2018, for the report of DPP to be available.
