LASU Rolls Out AI Assistant to Guide New Students Through Admission Clearance
By Sherif Salau
Lagos State University has introduced an artificial intelligence-powered support service to help applicants navigate the often complex Central Admission Clearance Application, known as LACACA.
The new tool is designed to give prospective students clear, step-by-step guidance at every stage of the clearance process, from understanding requirements and submitting documents to checking status and resolving payment issues. University officials say the service forms part of a broader effort to make admission procedures more accessible, responsive and efficient.
Applicants can reach the AI assistant exclusively through text messages and screenshots on the dedicated number 0707 810 5804. The service does not accept voice calls, audio recordings or video interactions. Once contacted, the system provides information on clearance procedures, required documentation, payment enquiries, matriculation number processes and frequently asked questions. It also offers practical advice on the dos and don’ts of the process, helping users avoid common mistakes and misleading information.
Importantly, the AI is programmed to recognise its limits. Routine questions are handled automatically, but any matter that requires verification of records or an official decision is escalated. In such cases, applicants are directed to the appropriate human support staff through official channels. The system operates strictly within approved LACACA guidelines and declines to speculate when information is incomplete.
University administrators describe the initiative as a measured application of technology rather than a replacement for human oversight. By shifting routine enquiries to the AI assistant, staff can focus on cases that genuinely need personal attention, while applicants gain quicker access to reliable guidance at any time.
The move reflects LASU’s stated commitment to digital innovation in higher education administration. For thousands of students entering the university each year, the clearance stage has long been a source of anxiety and delays. The new service aims to reduce that friction by putting accurate, official information within easy reach.
Applicants are advised to use the dedicated number solely for LACACA-related questions and to rely only on official university channels for authoritative information. As the system goes live, its effectiveness will ultimately be measured by how smoothly new students move from admission offer to full registration.
