Three Ikorodu Scholars Head To China On Chinese Government Scholarships

Three academically outstanding young people from Ikorodu Federal Constituency are set to begin new academic journeys in China after securing Chinese Government international scholarships facilitated by the Member representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson.
The beneficiaries — Bello Saidat Oluwatobiloba, Faseyide Tolulope Temitayo and Nwobu Faith — earned their places through academic merit and a competitive assessment process.
Their selection followed a rigorous screening coordinated by the educational support team of Jimi Benson’s iCare Foundation. The exercise was conducted from a database of applications submitted by constituents seeking educational support.
Applicants were assessed based on their academic records, performances in their previous institutions and results from a screening exercise organised by the Foundation’s education team.
The process was designed to identify candidates with the academic ability and discipline required to succeed in an international learning environment.
The three beneficiaries will pursue different programmes at universities in China.
Bello Saidat Oluwatobiloba is proceeding to Peking University for a PhD in National Development, while Faseyide Tolulope Temitayo will study Nursing at Jinzhou Medical University. Nwobu Faith will pursue a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at North Eastern University, Shenyang.
Their success adds to the growing number of international educational opportunities facilitated for constituents by Rep. Benson. Another beneficiary from the constituency, Sadiq Jimoh, is already in China pursuing a master’s degree through the same scholarship opportunity.
Speaking during a pre-departure engagement with the scholars, Rep. Benson congratulated them and urged them to understand that the opportunity goes beyond obtaining academic certificates.
The lawmaker said their academic records had demonstrated their capabilities, while their performance during the Foundation’s screening further strengthened his confidence in their ability to compete successfully in a global academic environment.
He charged them to remain disciplined and focused, pursue excellent grades and take advantage of opportunities to expand their knowledge and professional outlook.
Benson also reminded the scholars that they would be representing Ikorodu and Nigeria throughout their stay in China and urged them to conduct themselves responsibly.
He encouraged them to respect the laws of their host country, serve as good ambassadors and return with knowledge and experience that could contribute to Nigeria’s development.
The Director-General of Jimi Benson’s iCare Foundation and Executive Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), Mayor Deen Sanwoola, also urged the beneficiaries to approach the opportunity with seriousness.
Sanwoola advised the scholars to remain committed to their studies, maintain exemplary conduct and avoid distractions that could affect their academic objectives.
He encouraged them to emulate Sadiq Jimoh, who is already studying in China, describing his progress and conduct as a positive example for other beneficiaries.
According to him, the scholars should see their time in China as an opportunity to gain international exposure, develop professional relationships and acquire perspectives that could benefit their communities after their return.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to Rep. Benson and the iCare Foundation for facilitating the opportunity.
Bello Saidat described her admission to Peking University for doctoral studies as a significant milestone in her academic career and pledged to remain committed to her research.
Faseyide Tolulope also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to study Nursing at Jinzhou Medical University, describing it as a new chapter in her academic and professional journey.
Nwobu Faith, who will undertake an MBA at North Eastern University, Shenyang, said the scholarship would provide an important platform for advancing her academic and professional aspirations.
All three beneficiaries pledged to maintain high standards of conduct, work diligently and justify the confidence placed in them by pursuing academic excellence.
For Ikorodu Federal Constituency, their departure represents more than three young people travelling abroad to study. It also highlights how educational support can connect local talent with opportunities beyond Nigeria.
As Bello Saidat begins her PhD at Peking University, Tolulope commences her Nursing programme at Jinzhou Medical University and Faith starts her MBA in Shenyang, the three scholars will carry with them the expectations of their constituency — and the opportunity to return with knowledge and experience that can make a meaningful difference at home.
