Nigeria Starts Strong At Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Championships

Nigeria made an impressive start at the 2026 Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Junior and Senior Swimming Championship in Dakar, Senegal, finishing day one in second place on the medal table behind hosts Senegal.

The Nigerian team collected eight medals on the opening day two gold, four silver and two bronze.

Aidan Dumuje and India Brown claimed gold in the 100-metre freestyle. Omolola Akinsanmi, Demilade Ayemowa and Tofunmi Ibidapo added to the silver-medal tally with strong performances in events including the 100-metre freestyle, 100-metre breaststroke and 200-metre butterfly.

Nigeria also secured two bronze medals, with podium finishes in the boys’ and girls’ 200-metre breaststroke as well as the junior mixed relay.

The solid opening-day haul positions Nigeria among the leading nations as the championship continues in Dakar.
