Who Wants Ruger Dead? TikToker Sparks Controversy With Death Wish

Nigerian singer Ruger has reacted after a TikTok user wished him dead while criticising his music, sparking a fresh social media controversy.
The controversy began after the female TikTok user described one of Ruger’s songs as “misogynistic and homophobic” before making a statement about the singer’s death.
In a viral video, she said in Pidgin English: “Ruger gats die na the only thing wey fit help my mental health.”
Ruger later shared the video on his X account and reacted to the death wish, saying he believed the nature of the comment gave him a reason to respond.
“I think I get a pass for her wishing me dead,” the singer wrote.
He subsequently mocked the TikToker over her appearance and eating habits, while sarcastically apologising to feminists and body positivity activists.
The exchange has since generated reactions online, with the controversy shifting from criticism of Ruger’s music to a broader debate over the limits of social media criticism and whether wishing death on a public figure can be justified as an expression of personal frustration.
