A Century Of Care: Massey Children’s Hospital Enters A New Era

Massey Children’s Hospital has been serving Lagos as one of Lagos’ oldest and most steadfast institutions devoted to the well-being of children for more than a hundred years.
The Hospital was established in 1914 on Adeniji Adele Road on Lagos Island, the hospital has quietly shape the city’s paediatric health care landscape, offering specialized medical attention to successive generations of young patients.
Several decades after, Massey has become more than a treatment centre. Massey has functioned as a critical point of care for families across Lagos, providing focused paediatric services at a time when specialized children’s medicine was far less widely available. Its enduring presence on Lagos Island has made it a familiar and trusted name in the state’s healthcare system.
Today, the legacy is being carried forward. The Lagos State Government has embarked on the development of a new, modern Massey Children’s Hospital within the same Lagos Island axis. It is projected to address the growing healthcare needs of a rapidly expanding population and to strengthen the state’s capacity to deliver high quality paediatric care to kids.
The new face of the facility will provide comprehensive specialist services for children, supported by advanced diagnostic and treatment infrastructure. By expanding clinical capacity and upgrading medical capabilities, Massey Children’s Hospital (MCH) aims to meet contemporary standards of paediatric medicine while remaining rooted in the location that has really defined the Hospital’s identity for over a century.
Beyond the construction of a building, the ideal represents a strategic investment in specialized children’s healthcare. It reflects a recognition that the health of the next generation is centered as a long-term progress of Lagos. In continuation of the work that begun in 1914, the new Massey Children’s Hospital seeks to make sure that specialized paediatric care remains accessible, modern, and be responsive to the needs of the city’s little children residing within the state.
