Yomi Fabiyi Demands Probe Into Death of Actress Temitope Osoba

Nollywood actor and human rights activist Yomi Fabiyi has called for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of actress Temitope Osoba.

Fabiyi said his organisation, Break The Silence Foundation, had petitioned the Lagos State Commissioner of Police and commenced what he described as a “legitimate probe” into the actress’ death.

In a statement shared on his Instagram page on Monday, the actor said the investigation was necessary because Osoba allegedly reported a matter to the police shortly before her death.

According to Fabiyi, Osoba had personally approached the police and raised what he described as a criminal complaint before she died.

“TOPE OSOBA reported the matter to the police herself and established a criminal angle. She died a few hours later, and nobody was interested in the investigation,” he wrote.

Fabiyi also questioned the decision to proceed with the actress’ burial without an autopsy.

He urged those involved to allow due process and establish the cause and circumstances of her death before her remains are buried.

“Do the AUTOPSY before burying,” he said.

The actor maintained that his organisation would continue with its investigation regardless of whether the scheduled burial went ahead.

“Burial or no burial, we will advance in our probe and get to the root of the matter. The law will catch up when it is ready,” he stated.

He also appealed to Nigerians not to allow emotions or sentiments to interfere with investigations into deaths or alleged criminal matters.

“JUSTICE REQUIRES PATIENCE,” Fabiyi wrote, urging those seeking answers to remain committed to due process.

Conflicting Accounts

Osoba’s death was announced by fellow actor Alesh Sanni, who described her as his “dearest sister” and expressed shock over her passing.

The actress had previously spoken publicly about her battle with breast cancer. She later announced her recovery and return to acting in August 2025, saying she was focused on rebuilding her life and using her platform to promote cancer awareness.

However, questions surrounding the circumstances of her death have since generated different accounts.

Osoba’s fiancé, Prophet Itunu Onadeko, has alleged that she died at a police station in Ikorodu, Lagos, although he said he could not identify the specific station.

Onadeko also rejected suggestions that her death was linked to complications from her previous battle with breast cancer.

Members of Osoba’s family have, however, given a different account of her final moments.

Her maternal aunt, Pejuola Ogunesan, alleged that Osoba had spoken about her impending death and that her condition deteriorated before she was taken to hospital.

The different accounts have not been independently established.

Meanwhile, the Awonuga/Osoba family has warned against what it described as false, speculative and unauthorised reports concerning the actress’ death.

The family urged members of the public to rely on information released through authorised family channels.

Burial Set for Thursday

Despite the calls for further investigation, Osoba’s burial is scheduled for Thursday, August 13, 2026, in Iperu Remo, Ogun State.

The funeral service is expected to take place at Saint James Anglican Church, Iperu Remo, followed by her interment at Iperu Remo Cemetery.

Fabiyi’s latest intervention has now added to growing calls for clarity over what happened in the final hours of the actress’ life.

With conflicting accounts from people close to the deceased, the circumstances surrounding Osoba’s death remain a subject of public concern.

Any definitive conclusion, however, will depend on the outcome of an official investigation and, where conducted, medical and forensic findings.
