Mechanics, Abandoned Vehicles Reclaim Access Road Near Lekki Coastal Route

Residents and motorists using the access road leading to the Coastal Road at the Second Gate in Jakande, Lekki, are once again contending with an encroachment that has disrupted free movement in the area.

The stretch of road has been taken over by mechanics who have set up informal workshops, while abandoned vehicles now occupy significant portions of the carriageway. The situation has narrowed the usable road space, creating congestion and safety concerns for those heading towards the coastal corridor.

Local road users report that the problem has resurfaced after previous clearances, with the combination of roadside repairs and derelict cars making the route difficult to navigate, particularly during peak hours. The encroachment also raises questions about the long-term maintenance of access routes that feed into one of Lagos’s key coastal infrastructure projects.

Authorities have yet to issue an official response on the latest development. Residents continue to call for sustained enforcement to restore the road to its intended use and prevent further deterioration of access to the Coastal Road.

The recurring nature of the issue highlights the ongoing challenge of managing informal economic activity along major thoroughfares in the Lekki axis while protecting critical transport links for the wider community.
