RCCG Ordains 2,820 Pastors, 29 Honorary Elders at 74th Convention

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has ordained 2,820 pastors and 29 honorary elders as the church concluded its 74th Annual Convention with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, August 9, 2026.

The ordination ceremony was held at the Redemption Camp, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, as thousands of worshippers gathered for the final day of the week-long convention.

Speaking during the ceremony, the General Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, urged members of the church to pray for the newly ordained pastors and elders, saying they should be supported to fulfil their responsibilities in the service of God.

Adeboye explained that ordination into the pastoral office involves the anointing with oil and the laying on of hands, both of which were performed during the ceremony.

He described the pastoral office as the highest office in the RCCG, noting that every pastor is, in principle, an equal colleague of the General Overseer because the General Overseer himself is also a pastor.

“Please pray for them as we anoint them with oil,” Adeboye told the congregation.
On the 29 honorary elders, the RCCG General Overseer described the conferment as a mark of distinction and recognition for members who had distinguished themselves through exemplary lives and service to the church.

He likened the honour to the conferment of an honorary doctorate degree, explaining that the RCCG honours outstanding members by ordaining them as honorary elders.

“Being ordained as an elder in RCCG is a sign of distinction and appreciation of a life of excellence,” he said.

“In RCCG, when we see people who have distinguished themselves, we ordain them as honorary elders.
“These special people are brought from across the nations. This is done once in two years.”

Adeboye urged the congregation to pray for the newly honoured elders, particularly for divine strength and continued usefulness in the service of God.

He also called for prayers that they would be endowed with the power to heal, continue to shine in their respective spheres and remain steadfast in God’s service until the end.

“Pray for them that the Almighty God will endow them with power to heal and that their lives will continue to shine. Pray for them so that they will be able to serve God till the very end,” he said.
