WAFCON 2026: Christy Ucheibe Shifts Focus To Zambia Clash

Nigeria midfielder, Christy Ucheibe has shifted her attention to the game against Zambia after the disappointing 3-2 loss to Malawi at the Women’s Africa Cup Of Nations (WAFCON).

Malawi potent forward led by Thabita and Terma Chawinga tormented the Falcons defense thereby causing the Africa Champions to lose their first game.

Ucheibe refused to dwell on any shortcomings and emphasised the unpredictable nature of the game.

“I’m going to say it’s football. Nothing went wrong, both teams played very well, and that’s just football for you. You lose, you win, or you draw. But either way, you bounce back,” the Benfica defensive midfielder said.

Looking ahead to Nigeria’s next challenge, she reflected on the importance of a positive response against Zambia.

“In the next game against Zambia, we will try our best to get through this phase so we can qualify for the World Cup and defend our title.”

Nigeria will trade tackles with Zambia on Saturday, August 1 at the Al Madina Stadium, Rabat as they seek to get their title defence and 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification campaign back on track.
