WAFCON 2026: Malawi Coach Dismisses Fear Against Nigeria

Malawi head coach, Lovemore Fazili is optimistic of his side’s chances in their Women Africa Cup Of Nations (WAFCON) group opener against ten times champions Nigeria on Tuesday, July 28.
Malawi qualified for the WAFCON 2026 for the first time in their history as they displaced Angola 2-0 on aggregate in the final qualifying round.
Fazili dismissed any comparison with Nigeria while focusing the strength of his team with the knowledge of playing numerous matches.
He admitted meeting Nigeria will bring the best out of them a they hope to cause an upset against the defending champions.
“I don’t compare with Nigeria. Where we are coming from to reach this point. We have gone through many matches,” Fazili was quoted by Ademola Sports.
“Meeting Nigeria, I think we go and play and see where we can do better by the end of the game.”
The Malawi gaffer however didn’t downplay his team’s chances while he believes they can match the ten times Africa champions.
“We are a good team, we are a good country. In tomorrow’s game [we want] to give a good performance. That is all I can say.”
