Toke Makinwa Recalls Spending School Fees on Ex Before Discovering Betrayal

Controversial media personality and actress Toke Makinwa has revealed why she no longer buys gifts for men she is romantically involved with.

Speaking on a recent episode of her Toke Moments podcast, which featured reality TV star Beauty Tukura, Makinwa said a painful experience with an older boyfriend during her university days changed her perspective on relationships.

She recalled dating a man who was 10 years older than her and using her university semester’s school fees to organise an elaborate birthday celebration for him.

According to her, she also took him to an Italian restaurant in Victoria Island, where he ordered several items from the menu.

“I stopped buying men gifts after I dated a man who was 10 years older than me. I spent my university semester’s school fees to celebrate his birthday and took him to an Italian restaurant in Victoria Island,” she said.

Makinwa disclosed that after the celebration, they returned to his house only for her to discover another woman there.

“He ordered everything on the menu. When we got home, there was another woman in his house. That broke me,” she added.

The media personality said the incident left her deeply hurt and influenced her decision to stop buying gifts for men in subsequent relationships.
