Akinpelu Announces August Return of Ounje Alásàpẹ̀ Initiative
Alimosho Local Government Chairman, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting farmers and boosting food security, announcing that the next edition of the Ounje Alásàpẹ̀ Alimosho initiative will hold in August.
Johnson made this known during a meeting with members of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), where he commended stakeholders for their efforts in strengthening the association and emphasised the critical role farmers play in economic growth, food sufficiency and sustainable development.
According to the council chairman, increased investment in agriculture remains key to improving livelihoods, stimulating local economic activities and ensuring long-term prosperity for residents of Alimosho.
He assured farmers of the local government’s continued support through policies and programmes aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and improving farmers’ welfare.
Highlighting one of his administration’s flagship interventions, Johnson pointed to the success of the Ounje Alásàpẹ̀ Alimosho initiative, which enabled farmers to sell their produce directly to residents at a 50 per cent subsidised rate.
He described the programme as a practical response to rising food prices and a major relief for households across the council area.
“The next edition of the Ounje Alásàpẹ̀ programme is scheduled for August, and we encourage farmers, traders and residents to participate actively,” he said, expressing confidence that stronger collaboration between government and agricultural stakeholders would further improve food accessibility and drive economic growth.
Speaking at the meeting, Acting Chairman of AFAN in Lagos State, Mr. Shekin Agbayewa, commended Johnson for his support for farmers and praised the successful implementation of the food subsidy initiative.
Also speaking, the National Secretary of AFAN disclosed that the association plans to confer the position of Patron on Johnson in recognition of his leadership and commitment to the welfare of farmers in Alimosho.
