Nigerian gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has appealed to Nigerians to continue praying for the safe release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, while cautioning against turning the tragedy into a political issue.

In a video that circulated widely on social media on Monday, Alaseyori said the Federal Government and security agencies were making efforts to secure the freedom of the victims and should not be dismissed as inactive.

According to the singer, prayers remain essential in addressing the situation, stressing that spiritual support should accompany ongoing rescue operations.

She argued that it would be unfair to suggest that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and security agencies were not working towards the release of the abductees.

Alaseyori also urged Nigerians not to allow themselves to be influenced by political interests, saying the focus should remain on securing the freedom of the children and school staff still in captivity.

She maintained that while security operatives may be carrying out efforts behind the scenes, the country must continue to pray for divine intervention and protection for those affected.

The singer called on citizens to unite in prayer for Nigeria and for the victims’ families, noting that national challenges require collective support rather than blame.

Her comments come amid growing concern over the abduction of pupils and school workers from communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, where dozens of victims have reportedly remained in captivity since the attack.

The incident has sparked nationwide outrage, particularly following reports that one of the abducted teachers, Michael Oyedokun, was killed by the kidnappers while negotiations for the victims’ release continue.
