Ijede Kingdom Crowns Oba Saheed Adefarasin After 14-Year Royal Vacancy

Ijede Kingdom in Ikorodu Division came alive with celebration, culture, and royal splendour on Sunday, May 24, 2026, as His Royal Majesty, Oba Saheed Adefarasin, was officially crowned the Alajede of Ijede Kingdom, bringing an end to a 14-year period without a substantive monarch following the passing of the former Alajede.

The historic coronation ceremony attracted a large gathering of traditional rulers, political leaders, government officials, religious figures, community stakeholders, and indigenes of Ijede from within and outside Nigeria, all united in celebrating what many described as the beginning of a new era for the kingdom.

Across the community, residents trooped out in colourful traditional attires as cultural displays, music, and royal processions transformed the kingdom into a centre of celebration and renewed hope.

Among notable dignitaries present at the event were Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, Oba Bashir Shotonwa Sekumade, Oba Adeoriyomi Abdul‑Akeem Oyebo, Oba Ahmed Moruf Olalekan Ogunnaike, Aminat Oluwakemi Alabi, and Benson Ayodele Sunday, among several other guests.

In her welcome address, Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba described the coronation as a defining moment in the history of the kingdom and a celebration of the enduring cultural heritage of the people of Ijede.

She congratulated the monarch on his ascension to the throne and expressed optimism that his reign would usher in peace, unity, development, and stronger social cohesion within the community.

According to her, the emergence of Oba Adefarasin comes at a critical time when the people desire visionary leadership capable of preserving tradition while advancing sustainable development.

She also praised Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for the Lagos State Government’s continued support for traditional institutions and grassroots governance.

The chairman extended appreciation to kingmakers, royal families, market associations, youth organisations, religious bodies, and residents whose collective efforts contributed to the successful hosting of the coronation.

Also speaking at the event, Moshood Abiodun Aro thanked stakeholders and dignitaries for their contributions to the ceremony and described the coronation as a landmark event in the history of Ijede Kingdom.

He particularly acknowledged the support of the Lagos State Government, traditional rulers across Lagos, community organisations, members of the APC, and the Ajanaku Royal Family.

In her remarks, Kikelomo Bolarinwa conveyed the goodwill message of Governor Sanwo-Olu and congratulated the newly crowned monarch.

She urged Oba Adefarasin to utilise his experience, wisdom, and leadership capacity to strengthen collaboration between the traditional institution and government while promoting peace, welfare, and development within the kingdom.

According to her, traditional rulers remain vital partners in governance and community development across Lagos State.

The ceremony concluded with royal blessings, cultural performances, and renewed commitments from stakeholders to support the reign of the new monarch.

With the official ascension of Oba Saheed Adefarasin to the throne of his forefathers, many residents expressed hope that his reign would usher in lasting peace, prosperity, unity, and transformational development for Ijede Kingdom.
