A Nigerian-American healthcare specialist, Kelvin Onyiaeze, has threatened to file a ₦1 billion defamation lawsuit against social media commentator Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, over allegations made in a viral video.

Speaking during a briefing in Abuja, Onyiaeze described the claims linking him to land-grabbing activities as false, malicious, and damaging to his reputation. He accused the influencer of deliberately spreading misinformation capable of inciting public hostility against him.

Backing his position, the North American-Africa Coalition (NACA) defended Onyiaeze, describing him as a reputable professional with a clean record. The group alleged that the accusations were part of a coordinated attempt to tarnish his image and mislead the public.

“The allegations in the viral video are completely false and amount to character assassination,” the coalition said, warning that such claims could have wider international implications.

NACA also raised concerns about the growing misuse of social media to target individuals, especially professionals in the diaspora, noting that such actions could pose risks beyond Nigeria.

The group further criticised attempts to draw international attention to the issue, including tagging foreign institutions, which it said could spread misinformation and mislead diplomatic channels.

Citing provisions of the Cybercrimes Act 2015, Onyiaeze accused VeryDarkMan of cyberstalking, bullying, and disseminating harmful content. He stressed that the digital space should not be treated as lawless.

He called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, and the Office of the Attorney General to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.

Onyiaeze also revealed that his legal team, led by Barrister Abubarka Orumah, has been instructed to begin legal proceedings, including filing a libel and defamation suit against the influencer.
