The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports alleging a plan to impose candidates ahead of the forthcoming legislative elections, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement, the party said the publication, which it claimed was based on assertions by an unnamed group of “concerned and vigilant members,” was a fabrication aimed at creating unnecessary tension within the party.

The APC maintained that there are no secret meetings or predetermined lists of candidates, stressing that the allegations were designed to portray a crisis where none exists.

According to the party, some individuals who are unable to achieve their ambitions through legitimate channels have resorted to spreading misinformation and engaging in what it described as propaganda and blackmail.

The party also alerted security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and other stakeholders to what it called the activities of “political mischief-makers” attempting to destabilise the party and overheat the political space.

It added that such actions are intended to undermine confidence in the party’s processes and create unwarranted anxiety among members and the public.

Reaffirming its position, the Lagos APC said it remains committed to the provisions of the Electoral Act, the party’s constitution, and guidelines issued by its national leadership.

The party reiterated that where consensus cannot be reached, candidates will emerge through direct primaries, stressing that this position is final.

It further assured members that its internal processes are guided by consultation, inclusiveness, and respect for democratic principles.

The APC urged party members and the public to disregard what it described as false narratives being circulated by faceless groups, insisting that due process would be followed and that the will of party members would ultimately determine candidate selection.
