Isale Eko Descendants Union Congratulates Newly Installed White Cap Chiefs
The Isale Eko Descendants Union (IEDU) has congratulated the newly installed White Cap Chiefs of Lagos, describing their elevation as well deserved and in line with tradition.
In a congratulatory flyer made available to Echonews, the union praised the newly installed chiefs, noting that they are men “for whom the caps truly fit,” and commended the ancient institution for sustaining the cultural heritage of Lagos.
Among those installed at the weekend was Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, who was capped as the Ogboni Iduntafa of Lagos (Onilegbale), while Engr. Ismael Ajibade (Nasiru-Ayeni) was installed as the Eletu Odibo of Lagos.
Others include Chief Adebola Olalekan (Alabi Dosunmi) as Olorogun Adodo of Lagos; Chief Yusuf Jinadu as Bajulu of Lagos; Chief Rasaq Abolaji as Onimole of Lagos; and Chief Lookman Bolaji Oluwa as Onisemo of Lagos.
There was jubilation and cultural fanfare across Isale Eko as Lagos witnessed the formal capping of the new White Cap Chiefs—an historic ceremony that once again reinforced the city’s rich traditional heritage.
The ceremony, held in the ancient heart of Lagos, was presided over by His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu I, who led the age-long traditional rites marking the elevation of the distinguished indigenes into the revered White Cap Chieftaincy institution.
The colourful event attracted traditional chiefs, members of royal families, community leaders, cultural enthusiasts and residents of Isale Eko, who turned out in large numbers to celebrate the momentous occasion.
The White Cap Chiefs institution remains one of the most respected traditional hierarchies in Lagos, with its members serving as key custodians of customs, culture and traditional governance in the ancient kingdom.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Oba of Lagos charged the newly installed chiefs to uphold the traditions of Lagos, serve their communities with integrity, and remain committed to the preservation of Yoruba cultural values.
The event was marked by traditional music, chants, prayers and colourful displays of cultural splendour, as residents described the occasion as a proud moment for Isale Eko and Lagos State at large.
