Three residents in Lagos have been arrested for contravening the law through indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
The trio: Adedigba Kazeem, male Muosolu Ogochukwh, both 35 years, and Isaac Monday, 24, were said to have commited the offence by dumping waste at Ikotun-Igando and have been held in custody.
The state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the arrests stating that the detainees committed the wrongdoing on Monday after which they were officers by the state’s Waste Management Authority’s Waste Infractions Surveillance and Investigation Team, as part of ongoing efforts to tackle waste blackspots along the corridor.
“The apprehended individuals have been transferred to the LAWMA legal team at the Oshodi Mobile Court for further legal proceedings,”Wahab said on Tuesday.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to enforcing environmental laws and maintaining cleanliness across Lagos. He cautioned residents against indulging in the act or other contraventional deeds as necessary sanctions await violators.
