The spirit of the festive season came alive across Lagos East Senatorial District as no fewer than 12,000 households benefitted from the annual Christmas food distribution organised by Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA.

The intervention, which cut across Ikorodu, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Kosofe and Somolu, once again underscored the Senator’s commitment to social welfare and people-centred representation. With this year’s exercise, a total of 84,000 households have benefitted from the scheme since its inception.

The food packs, containing essential staples such as rice and garri, were distributed across all 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) within Lagos East. Beneficiaries included elderly citizens, widows, persons living with disabilities, women and unemployed youths, many of whom described the support as timely relief amid prevailing economic realities.

Branded with the Renewed Hope insignia of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, alongside Senator Abiru’s #DoingGood message, the distribution reflected a deliberate alignment with the federal government’s agenda on food security, social protection and inclusive welfare.

To ensure fairness and transparency, the selection of beneficiaries followed a community-driven process. Residents across Lagos East submitted nominations via an online platform, recommending vulnerable individuals and families within their neighbourhoods. From these entries, beneficiaries were randomly shortlisted, ensuring broad representation across the district’s diverse communities.

For many recipients, the gesture went beyond the food items themselves. It served as a reaffirmation of Senator Abiru’s compassion-driven leadership and his consistent effort to translate public office into tangible impact at the grassroots.

In further support of the festive celebrations, cows were also distributed to selected traditional rulers and party leaders within the district to enable wider communal sharing during the season.

As celebrations peak across Lagos East, the initiative has once again positioned Senator Abiru’s annual food outreach as a familiar symbol of relief, inclusion and responsive governance, reinforcing the message that no segment of society should be left behind during moments of collective joy.
