MRS Oil Nigeria Plc has reduced the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, following fresh supply from the Dangote Refinery to ₦699 per litre.

Checks by correspondents across Lagos and other major cities indicate that MRS filling stations are now selling petrol at ₦739 per litre, while many other retail outlets continue to dispense the product at prices exceeding ₦800 per litre.

The price adjustment comes amid ongoing optimisation efforts at the Dangote Refinery, Africa’s largest single-train refinery, as it aligns production schedules with demand and distribution requirements across the downstream petroleum market.

Although neither MRS Oil Nigeria Plc nor Dangote Petroleum Refinery has issued an official statement on the price reduction, industry analysts suggest the development may reflect broader market recalibrations as marketers adjust procurement strategies.

Analysts point to several factors influencing the pricing shift, including fluctuating supply allocations from domestic refiners, evolving retail fuel pricing dynamics, and efforts to manage logistics and distribution costs more efficiently. Some marketers have also adjusted off-take volumes from refinery partners to diversify supply sources, maintain competitive pricing, and protect profit margins amid rising competition.

Typically, fuel scarcity tends to peak during the festive period, causing longer queues and higher costs. However, this year appears different. With the current price reduction and stable supply at MRS petrol stations, Lagosians are expected to benefit from savings and a smoother fuel purchase experience. Notably, queues at MRS stations have not been as long as initially anticipated.

MRS Oil Nigeria Plc continues to operate its nationwide network of service stations, with fuel availability reported to be stable across its outlets. Further details are expected as official statements from MRS and Dangote Petroleum become available.
