Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has taken a major step toward environmental sustainability and grassroots economic empowerment with the official launch of the Eco-Circulate Onigbongbo Waste-to-Wealth Initiative.

The programme—developed in partnership with PAKAM and fully supported by the Office of the Special Adviser on Climate Change & Circular Economy, Lagos State Government—seeks to turn everyday waste disposal into a rewarding, community-driven system that benefits both residents and the environment.

Under the new initiative, registered waste collectors equipped with interest-free loans and modern electric (EV) tricycles now buy recyclable materials directly from homes, shops and businesses. The collected items are transported cleanly and efficiently using the zero-emission EV tricycles to designated recycling hubs across the LCDA.

Residents participating in the scheme can exchange their recyclables for tangible rewards, including cash payments, bags of rice, call airtime or recharge cards, Cowry card bus passes and other incentives designed to promote steady participation.

The Eco-Circulate programme is expected to reduce indiscriminate waste dumping, improve sanitation, promote a circular economy and create new streams of income for households within the LCDA.

With this launch, Onigbongbo LCDA positions itself as one of the forward-thinking councils driving climate-friendly innovation and community wealth creation in Lagos State.
