Man Bags 21 Month Imprisonment For Fraud

The Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos has sentenced one Chukwudole Chinedu to 21 months and 18 days in prison for contravening Lagos State Laws through fraudulent activity.

Chinedu was sentenced by Justice Rahman Oshodi, after he as found culpable of obtaining money under false pretence following his arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Oshodi was found him guilty as charged by the EFCC for obtaining the sum of N50 million from one Ezeh Chukwudi, the complainant, under the false pretence that he had $70,000 to sell to him at N720.

The lawbreaker was arraigned on two counts bordering on obtaining money under false pretence and stealing after he was said to have committed the offence sometime in January 2023 in Lagos, thereby violating the commission’s Section 1(1)(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006, and Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Chinedu pleaded guilty to the two counts after which the anti-graft agency tendered several documents through an operative, which were admitted in evidence by the court.

The court found the defendant guilty and convicted him accordingly to 21 months and 18 days, with an option of a N5 million fine in lieu of imprisonment.
