Kosofe Local Government Celebrates Young Minds At 2025 Spelling Bee Preliminary Competition

The spirit of academic excellence was on full display on Tuesday, October 21, as Kosofe Local Government hosted the 2025 Spelling Bee Preliminary Competitions for public primary and secondary schools. The keenly contested event brought together bright young spellers from 18 primary schools and 14 secondary schools across the local government area.
The competition, held as part of Kosofe’s commitment to educational advancement, aimed to encourage literacy, build confidence, and nurture healthy academic rivalry among pupils.
Representing the Chairman, Barr. Moyosore Adedoyin Ogunlewe, the Chief of Staff, Mr. Akinyemi Abiona, delivered the keynote address, commending the participants and teachers for their dedication. He reiterated the administration’s strong focus on education, describing it as “the foundation of sustainable development and youth empowerment.”
Declaring the competition open, the Head of Education and Library Services, Mr. Adedeji Owolabi, welcomed guests and lauded the efforts of teachers and parents in preparing the students. He emphasized that initiatives like the Spelling Bee reflect Kosofe’s vision of raising future leaders grounded in knowledge and excellence.
The Education Secretary, Mr. Babatunde Shoneye, also expressed appreciation to the Executive Chairman for his unwavering support toward improving the quality of education in Kosofe. He encouraged the students to see the competition as a stepping stone to greater academic achievements.
After several tense rounds and enthusiastic applause from the audience, the winners emerged. In the primary school category, Monday Joshua of Muslim Mission Primary School clinched first place, followed by Okon Samuel of Orile Ifako Primary School in second place, and Maduke Allwell of Ojota Primary School in third.
In the secondary school category, Icha Marius-Jireh of Muslim Senior College took the top spot, while Musa Nimota, also from Muslim Senior College, finished second, and Felix Goodluck of Ogudu Junior High School secured third place.
The winners will represent Kosofe Local Government at the state level of the competition, where they’ll compete with champions from other LGAs across Lagos State.
The event concluded with cheers and celebration as participants were awarded medals, prizes, and certificates of recognition. The organizers commended all contestants for their courage and brilliance, encouraging them to keep striving for excellence — a reflection of Kosofe’s enduring belief that education remains the truest path to empowerment and progress.
