SNWFSC Celebrates Girl Child Day With Debate, Football Competition, Creative Showcase

The Sapphire Nigeria Women Football Supporters Club (SNWFSC) celebrated it’s fifth annual World International Girl Child Day (IGCD) on Saturday, October 11 with educational debates among secondary schools, presentation of creative works and a football competition with grassroots women’s club sides in Lagos.
Eric Moore, New Era, Surulere Girls, Onitolo Community Girls, Ideal Girls School, Ijero Girls and New Era Schools debated on the topic ‘Climate Change.’
In the junior category, Surulere Girls came first, while Ijero Girls and Ideal Girls School secured the second and third positions. While Eric Moore School clinched the first position and New Era, Surulere Girls came second and third respectively.
The football tournament saw Ablaze Amazons clinched the trophy with an elegant display and outstanding performance, while Victory Queens took second place and Unizee Sheila finished third.
In an exclusive interview with ECHONEWS, President of SNWFSC, Jadesola Adelabu attributed the event’s success to the club’s consistency and dedication to empowering young girls over the years and she believes the club’s driving force is leaving an impactful footprints in the lives of the young girls.
“It’s been consistency. This year, a lot happened, but we can only thank God. We can’t complain, it can only get better. We’ve faced a lot of things not we’re here, all thanks to God. These five years are already a success.”
“There were lots of highlights, workshop, medical talk, quiz and debate session, so I’m sure they’re happy and excited. First, second and third position all went home with sweet gifts. I’m sure next year will be better. It can only get better.”
The presentation segment showcased a range of creative works from the participating schools. Eric Moore once again claimed the top spot, followed by Onitolo Community Girls in second place, and Surulere Girls in third.
