The Eti-Osa Local Government has intensified its environmental sanitation campaign with a free house-to-house refuse evacuation and blackspot clearance exercise in the Lafiaji community, signalling a renewed commitment to a cleaner and healthier environment across the council area.

The large-scale operation, spearheaded by the Executive Chairman, Omoba Adeola Alimot Adetoro, is part of the local government’s “Zero Tolerance for Indiscriminate Dumping” initiative, aimed at eliminating waste congestion, improving drainage, and restoring aesthetics to public spaces.

During the cleanup, sanitation teams moved from house to house, collecting refuse directly from residents and clearing illegal dumpsites that had become health and safety hazards. Several environmental blackspots — areas notorious for illegal waste disposal — were also cleared and rehabilitated to prevent future misuse.

Speaking on the significance of the exercise, Chairman Omoba Adeola described it as a strategic, people-centred intervention designed to promote hygiene, public health, and civic responsibility among residents.

“This exercise is not a one-off event but a continuous effort to keep Eti-Osa clean and safe. We are determined to sustain these operations until every street and neighbourhood reflects the true beauty and standard of Eti-Osa,” she affirmed.

She emphasised that environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility, calling on community leaders, landlords, and youth groups to partner with the local government in maintaining a cleaner ecosystem.

Residents of Lafiaji, who have long battled challenges such as poor drainage and irregular waste collection, expressed satisfaction with the renewed effort. Many described the move as a “welcome relief” that could set the tone for sustained sanitation reforms in the area.
Local officials confirmed that the refuse evacuation campaign will be extended to other communities within the local government in the coming weeks as part of a phased environmental renewal plan.

“Our goal is to reclaim public spaces, restore urban order, and ensure every community in Eti-Osa enjoys a clean and habitable environment,” a council spokesperson said.

The Lafiaji exercise marks another milestone in the council’s drive to strengthen public health, environmental management, and community engagement under Omoba Adeola’s leadership.
