The Lagos State Command has arrested a security guard, Amos Kini, over allegations of holding a two-year-old child hostage and demanding five million naira as ransom.
The Command stated that the mother to the kidnapee, a resident in the Elemoro area of Lekki, made a report of her child’s disappearance to the Police at Elemoro Division, claiming that the accused fled with her son and her mobile phone.
In a statement issued by the security agency on Monday, Kini was alleged to have contacted the father of the minor with the stolen phone disclosing the amount to be paid for the child’s release.
In sequel to the happenings, the police laid a manhunt for the alleged lawbreaker, leading to the arrest of one Aruna Dauda who stood for him as guarantor in his employment terms.
Further mounted pressure led to Kini releasing the child but the police intensified efforts to get him arrested and on September 23, he was arrested at his hideout and taken into custody.
The Commissioner of Police, Olohunbe Jimoh, held that the accused will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
Jimoh berated Kini’s act saying, ”Kidnapping is a grievous act against an innocent child. The police remain committed to tackling violent and capital crimes across the state.
