Residents of Mushin have thrown their appreciation to the council chairman, Emmanuel Bamigboye and the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Ltd (SNEPCO) for coming to their aid through free eyes glasses and surgery.

While delivering his welcome address at the ceremony, the council boss affirmed that without the eyes, it is impossible to carry out any activity as the eye remains the most vital organ in human body.

Having conducted various health programmes across the length and breadth of Mushin, including Free Eye Glasses (Jigi Bamigboye), Bamigboye believes in sustaining a healthy population as it remains the backbone of every thriving society and the government must do everything possible to provide the citizens with good and quality healthcare services.

He commended NNPC and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Ltd for the initiative and collaboration with Mushin Local Government, to help in providing succour to the people who have sight challenges.

He also used the opportunity to appeal for more of such programmes in Mushin due to the increasing population and peculiar nature of the community.

While commending NNPC and SNEPCO for the laudable programme, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Central Internal Audit -Dr. Oyeyemi Ayoola, appealed to other corporate organisations to emulate the initiative as many Lagos residents are experiencing eye problems, being a highly populated city which accommodates various tribes.

The programme which targeted 5,000 residents as over 700 patients have already benefitted from the free eye treatment with free eye glasses and other medication, while over 40 Cataract surgeries have been conducted.

Some of the patients who have gone through the surgery appreciated the organisers, of the programme including Mrs. Taiwo, a resident of Papa Ajao, who had benefitted from the Jigi Bamigboye programme and had been billed by a private hospital at Ilupeju to pay 1.4 million naira for the Cataract surgery. She was happy and grateful to NNPC and SNEPCO, for the surgery which was conducted free without any payment.
